It would be safe to say that the first pop star that South Africa produced is the fiery and talented musician, Brenda Fassie. The Weekend Special icon changed the face of what was called bubblegum music in the 1980s and 1990s and became an integral part of the sound. And on the day that marks 16 years since her passing, social media uses to celebrate the life and artistry of the troubled, but undisputed Queen of African Pop.
Music legend, Yvonne Chaka Chaka made headlines recently after an interview by the music legend detailed how musicians like veteran gospel artist, Dr Rebecca Malope, had to change music genres because there was no competing with Brenda Fassie.
