A senior police officer has allegedly been arrested for helping suspects get rid of Andile Bobo Mchunu‘s body. The murder case of Andile Bobo Mchunu opens a can of worms. Police corruption, gross incompetence, and police brutality has been all exposed.
16-year-old Andile Bobo Mchunu disappeared after he was assaulted in Magagula hotel in Hambanathi, Tongaat, North of Durban. Bobo was found dead and dumped in the Newton River in Tongaat. Police search efforts were intensified due to a social media uproar for #justiceforbobo after a video of Bobo being beaten to death emerges.
Andile Mchunu’s murder angered the Hambanathi community who expressed their anger through burning down the Magagula hotel where Bobo was murdered.

Six men were arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping of the 16byear old Andile Bobo Mchunu. In a court hearing, the suspects through their lawyer Chris Gounden revealed that they have been brutally attacked in police custody. They claimed to have been forced to sign blank pages while in police custody. The lawyer claimed that his clients were tubed and forced to sign blank papers and papers with content they didn’t understand. Tubing is a controversial and extreme method of suffocation.
Mlungisi Thabathe, 28, Andile Nhleko, 27, Mncedisi Mzobe, 27, Siyanda Msweli, 26, Lindani Ndlovu, 22, and Malusi Mthembu 27, were charged with the murder and kidnapping of Andile Mchunu.
Initially, the suspects where seven but charges where provisionally dropped against the seventh suspect, who is a minor.
Discrepancies in and the gravity of Andie Bobo Mchunu’s murder invited Police Minister Bheki Cele who visited the Hambanathi Police Station to hear for himself. Police Minister reveals that he needed to hear the actual story on the ground especially claims of incompetence, brutality, and corruption by police.
The murder of Bobo took a new twist as it is alleged that a senior police officer at the local station was arrested for helping suspects get rid of Bobo’s body.
