VACANCY: Care Giver

Wards 95 and 99 are situated on the Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital premises in Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain. These wards have 77 beds for COVID19 positive patients.
The staff will be responsible for the admission of these patients and ensure quality palliative/ nursing care throughout their stay.
MPIC is inviting you to apply for a vacant position which will be on a full-time FIXED term contract from July – 30 November 2020.
· Date of commencement: July 2020
Job Purpose:
To deliver Nursing care/support patients and the families of patients within these wards, under the direct supervision of the Facility Manager and the Registered Nurses, including the following:
Assessing the needs of the patients and the provision of basic nursing care.
Implementation of Nursing Care Plans and reporting responses to the person in charge.
Observation of patients and patients’ condition, and documenting and reporting appropriately
Assist with Admission / Discharge Procedure under supervision
Key Requirements:
· Homebased Care Certificate
· 2 years’ experience as a Carer
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical
provide basic care to persons needing some assistance or who are unable to care for themselves, assist with activities of daily living.
Provide pressure care, wound care and other personal hygiene.
Work as a member of a team and contribute positively to the team
Taking of blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration of the patients, and recording and reporting appropriately
Administrative
Record all care given, including intake and output.
Record all observations taken.
Follow departmental policies and procedures.
Training
Attend in-service training sessions
Participate in a Performance Development Plan
Additional Tasks
In addition to the above tasks, the caregiver needs to perform any other task(s) not mentioned above, under the supervision of the Unit Manager and Registered Nurse.
Unit Manager/Professional Nurses
· To give feedback regarding care given and condition of patients.
· Inform the person in charge immediately if any changes in the patient’s condition occur.
· Discuss work-related problems.
Team Members
· To function as part of the multidisciplinary health care team. To communicate openly and clearly with all team members
