The South African Music Awards (Sama) released the list of nominations for the 2020 awards this week, and already there is unhappiness about the names. Fans and artists tweeted their anger and disappointment.
Limpopo-born artist Master KG took to Twitter to express his disappointment after not being nominated in any of the #SAMA26 categories.

Jerusalema was one of the chart-topping hits for 2019. The song hit No 2 on Ukhozi FM top 10 songs for 2019 and it has had more than 30 million views on YouTube.
This week, Master KG’s Jerusalema Remix ft Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode debuted at No 6 on the Billboard World Digital Sales Chart and No 31 in the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Chart.
Makhadzi, the Matorokisi and Tshanda Vhuya hitmaker, poured her heart out over the snub on social media, thanking her legion of fans for standing with her along the journey though she feels heart broken for not being nominated. Her song Matorokisi was one of the biggest in 2019 and many radio stations featured her from 2019 to 2020.
Posting on her Twitter page Makhadzi congratulated other musicians for being nominated. She went on to express her disappointment over the snub as she expected a nomination after what ‘Matorikisi did to Africans’.
Congratulations to all @TheSAMAs nominees..so said for not being recognized 💔 after what matorokisi did to AFRICANS last year..to all my fans I submitted everything is just that ndinga ndoneta tshinyama 😭.. Your love and support matters ❤❤❤❤

These are not the only Limpopo artists who feel they have been left out in the Samas.
Khutso Kgatle, popularly known as King Monada, also didn’t score a single nomination in the prestigious awards. This was even though his hit songs Ska Bhora Moreki and Malwedhe trended worldwide and received a lot of radio airplays.
Fans voiced their disappointment on Twitter about how they think the awards are not fair.
Makhadzi and Master KG had the country Dancin to their tunes, never mind they are from Limpopo but you disregard their hard work, they worked so hard to give us SOTY but you chose not to recognise them, God knows why you didn't…

This is devastating to be honest. Year after year. Even the Grammies do realize their system is flawed and try to rectify it. Representation❗️is important. @TheSAMAs just want to destroy our artists. The world appreciates and Recognize you Master KG.❤️#SAMA26 https://t.co/5tn5RslZTn

#SAMA26 it is that hard to recognize artists from Limpopo? If music from limpopo is Kak please tell us so we change our type of music and make music that will not degrade your award. Give us valid reason why you did not nominate Makhadzi and Master KG. #SAMA26MustFall pic.twitter.com/cRYCgveVVt

If really this people are buying Awards Then we are going no where as a country. Not only are they corrupt but they are jealous of one another as artists. Black person don't wanna see another black person successful #SAMA26MustFall

I can only imagine the level of heartbreak that comes with this post💔
How do you justify not nominating a song that have 36 000 000 views, thirty six million, on YouTube ??#SAMA26MustFall #SAMA26 pic.twitter.com/c0E9lpnnqF— MabasaTommy🇿🇦 (@MabasaTommy1) July 10, 2020
Joke Of The Year: @MasterKGsa (Jerusalem)@makhadzimuimbi (Matorokisi)@ShoMadjozi (John Cena)
Facts: 1. All thee best from Limpopo 2. None of them made it to the nominees 3. SAMAS26 is a terrible scam, worse than paramyd schemes #SAMA26MustFall pic.twitter.com/uTRHY6ZCOj— Pleasure Goodwill_sa (@Munyaipleasure) July 10, 2020
The SA Music Awards has since come out to its own defense by releasing a document which they say clarifies the selection process for Record of the Year and Music Video of the Year.
We value the contribution of all South African musicians and we acknowledge your concerns. Please see the #SAMA26 ‘Record Of The Year’ and ‘Music Video Of The Year’ selection process for further clarification on how it works.
