Marikana massacre: Four policemen appear in court

Eight-years after the Marikana massacre, it seems the wheels of justice are slowly turning.

Four police officials have appeared at the Mmabatho High Court in Mahikeng in the North West to face charges relating to the murder of a miner under police watch.

Among those who appeared in court is former North West deputy police commissioner William Mpembe.

The trial had hit a snag due to COVID-19, but the State says it now wants to bring the matter to a close.

Thirty-four miners died and some 78 others were injured in what’s become one of the biggest instances of police brutality in the country.
