Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said all forms of corruption must be stamped out before the National Health Insurance comes into effect.
Mkhize says his department will work with the President and the Finance Department in rooting out COVID-19 corruption.
He says no one is allowed to take advantage of the government to try and profit off the pandemic.
Mkhize says his department will ensure tenders are legal, and that all Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided to hospitals is of high quality.
The Health Minister was visiting hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal to check on COVID-19 facilities.
The national government has announced measures to be taken to curb looting of COVID-19 related aid funds.
The Health Minister spoke about the country’s ongoing struggle against the coronavirus pandemic.
Mkhize said the rate of coronavirus infections in South Africa is much lower than the government had predicted.
“We want to thank all South Africans that have followed containment measures. The practising of these measure has assisted in the downward trend. There are still many not following these practices, so we appeal to those to please wear a mask, wash hands and sanitize etc.”
He says the early lockdown delayed the surge of infections in most provinces, except the Western Cape.
