The health department has reported 159 COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to 12,423.
A total of 45 patients died in KwaZulu-Natal, 43 in Gauteng, 37 in the Eastern Cape, 29 in the Western Cape, and five in the Free State.
The department announced a cumulative total of 596,060 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 3,916 new cases identified.
Gauteng will soon have twice as many cases as the Western Cape.
South Africa’s recovery rate remains at 82 percent.
The total number of tests conducted to date is 3,455,671.
