The ANC is expected to discuss the economy, COVID-19, and corruption at its virtual lekgotla which begins on Friday. The governing party’s alliance partners, government deployees, and business and civil society will also take part.
South Africa is experiencing a serious economic crisis which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This week the quarterly labour force survey showed the country has shed over two million jobs in the second quarter.
The country’s GDP has shrunk by 51 percent in the same period.
According to Statistics South Africa, nearly all industries experienced a massive drop in output in the second quarter of 2020.
Construction had the biggest drop with the industry slumping further by 76.6 percent.
Manufacturing output shrank by 74.9 percent.
