Chaos at Witbank hospital as nurses swap stillborn babies’ bodies, one family already buried the wrong body

One of the biggest hospitals in Mpumalanga’s been rocked by a scandal after the bodies of stillborn babies were swapped.

Three families are traumatized following their experiences at the Witbank Hospital.

The facility’s admitted to the incidents, saying the bodies were switched due to human error.

One family’s already buried the wrong body, which now has to be exhumed.

The Health MEC says she’s ordered an investigation be sped up in order to get all the facts so that further appropriate action can be taken.

“Two nurses have already been suspended based on the incident,” Sasekani Manzini said.

“We want to promise the people of eMalahleni that as the department of health, we will make sure that we will come to the bottom of what happened and we will make sure that they get quality services at eMalahleni moving forward.”
