Coronavirus cases in South Africa have increased to 883,687. New daily infections have breached the 10,000 mark for the first time since 1 August.
The health department reported that the number of deaths has increased by 166 and the death toll now stands at 23,827. South Africa currently has 85,275 active cases.
The number of new daily infections in the Western Cape breached the 3,000 mark while the Eastern Cape is the only province showing a decrease in new daily infections.
The province, however, has the most COVID-19 deaths at 5,770 followed by the Western Cape with 5,230, Gauteng with 5,135 and KwaZulu-Natal with 3,510.
