Kaizer Chiefs 0 – 2 Maritzburg United

Judas Moseamedi and Ernst Middendorp came back to haunt Kaizer Chiefs, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to Maritzburg United on Saturday afternoon.

Ramahlwe Mpahlele and Anthony Akumu came into the starting line=up for Gavin Hunt’s side, while Ernst Middendorp kept faith with the same side that gave the Team of Choice their first victory of the season against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Maritzburg had their first sight at goal with ten minutes gone. A long throw-in from Daylon Claasen was cleared but only to the feet of Riyaaz Ismail, who saw his strike from outside the box just clear the bar.

In the 23rd minute, Lazarous Kambole went for luck from range but his well-struck effort went at least metre over the cross-bar in a half that barely produced any clear-cut openings.

Ten minutes later, Khama Billiat skipped past Clayton Daniels in the centre of the park and his curling effort was not too far away as Jethren Barr watched it cautiously go wide.

Billiat had been injured in a tackle from Travis Graham in the first half and only lasted three minutes after the interval before he was replaced by Dumisani Zuma. Meanwhile, Nurkovic took to the field on the hour mark to replace an ineffective Leonardo Castro.

But just after the Chiefs talisman had come on, Middendorp’s Maritzburg were in front. Gadinkame Modise whipped the ball in from the right-hand side to Judas Moseamedi, who flicked it on and into the far corner past a helpless Daniel Akpeyi.

Moseamedi grabbed his brace in the 79th minute when he got on the end of Dan Morgan’s long-throw and fired home from the tightest of angles, who now takes his goalscoring tally against Chiefs to five.
