The Health Department confirmed 263 more people have died of COVID-19 related illnesses, taking South Africa’s death toll to 49,413.
The department recorded 998 new cases in the last 24 hours. South Africa’s recovery rate is 94 per cent. Meanwhile, 80,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines will arrive in South Africa this weekend.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says the rollout is going well, and he expects 40,000 health workers vaccinated by the end of Wednesday.

In other news – Tiger Woods involved in a horrific accident
Tiger Woods in surgery after being involved in a horrible accident. The LA County Sheriff’s Department said that it “responded to a single-vehicle rollover” accident in which the “vehicle sustained major damage”.
The 15-time golf major champion, 45, had to be “extricated from the wreck” by firefighters and paramedics. Tiger Woods is in surgery after suffering “multiple leg injuries” in a car crash in Los Angeles, California. Learn more
