Senzo Meyiwa’s family leaving in fear of visiting his grave

SENZO Meyiwa’s family say it’s difficult to visit their son’s grave after it was vandalised last year. The tombstone was vandalised last December just after being unveiled by the eThekwini Municipality. Family spokesman, Sfiso Meyiwa, said they believed the pending investigation with regards to the vandalism would reveal the truth so their son can rest in peace.

That incident broke our hearts. It added to the pain of losing our son and that of not seeing justice done about his death,” said Sfiso.

It’s very difficult for us to visit his grave because it brings many unanswered questions.” Asked if they’d visited the grave since the incident, he said: “We can’t reveal that. All I can say is that we find it difficult to go there.

He said for now the family won’t ask for donations to renew the tombstone until the investigation by the municipality is finalised.

After the investigation, the municipality will decide a way forward. We don’t know whether Senzo is resting in peace,” said Sfiso. But as Christians, we believe when a person is dead they go to a resting place. But as a family we need closure – the truth about the person behind the incident.
