South Africa has recorded 1,250 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. That brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,578,450.
The health department said 48 more people have died because of the virus. The recovery rate is at 95 percent.
Meanwhile, the Sisonke vaccine trial resumed on Wednesday and just over 5,000 more health workers were vaccinated.

So far, just under 300,000 have received the jab.
