SA COVID-19: 897 new cases, 35 more deaths reported

There have been 897 new COVID-19 cases that have been reported in South Africa in the last 24 hours.

Sadly, 35 more people have succumbed to COVID-19 related illnesses, bringing the total death toll to 54,452.

The total number of active coronavirus cases in the country is 21,951.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize says South Africa has not yet detected the B.1.617 COVID-19 variant that is dominant in India.

Since last week India has been recording more than 300,000 new cases daily.
