Kenneth Kaunda to be laid to rest

One of Africa’s greatest liberation heroes, former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

This comes three weeks after relatives went to court in a bid to block his burial at the country’s presidential burial site in Lusaka.

The family wanted the court to let Kaunda be laid next to his wife Betty — who died in 2012 — to fulfil his last wishes.

However, the court has overruled the family’s bid.

This will allow the government to bury one of the fathers of African Independence at the official Embassy Park site on Wednesday at 10 am.

Kaunda served as Zambian leader for nearly 30 years.

He died on 17 June aged 97.
