Alleged violence instigator Ngizwe Mchunu grateful for his supporters

ONE of the alleged instigators of the recent riots, Ngizwe Mchunu, has distanced himself from the political party being suggested by his supporters.

When Ngizwe was released on bail in Randburg Magistrates Court a week ago, his social media fans called on him to form a political party.

They even named it Ziyakhala Freedom Fighters and designed a logo with a spear and flag in black, red and yellow.

A loyal supporter of former president Jacob Zuma, Ngizwe became popular with his slogan “ayikhale”, used during the riots.

Ngizwe, who called himself the president of crowds and poor people, addressed his 50 000 supporters on his Facebook page Ngizwe Online on Monday, thanking them for their support.

“I want to thank you for the love and well wishes. But, I want to make it clear that unfortunately, I’m not a politician and don’t have any ambition of pursuing a political career.”

The former Ukhozi FM presenter and SABC1 Roots presenter said Mzansi people were facing a problem because black people were failing to unite.

“There are many political parties out there that are useless because their leaders thought they could create political parties. People love them as leaders, not as politicians.

“It will be a big mistake if I create a political party. I will continue to be president of the crowd and a voice for the voiceless.

“I will use my courage to speak for poor people. I said ‘ayikhale’.”

Ngizwe was charged with incitement to commit public violence, and spent two weeks in jail after he handed himself over to the police in KZN.

He was granted R2 000 bail, and will be back in Randburg Magistrates Court on 21 October.
