The stage is set and the stakes are high ahead of Friday’s Constitutional Court hearing on whether the elections should be postponed.
While the IEC initially appeared confident of a successful application, opposition to its bid to postpone the polls to February next year is mounting.
The court will be under pressure to decide quickly as the deadline looms for parties to submit candidate names.
The ANC has deposed an affidavit supporting the IEC while the DA, One South Africa, AfriForum and Freedom Under Law will argue against it.
