Law enforcement on high alert following shutdown threat

There is speculation as to whether or not South Africa will see another shutdown,

But in the meantime, police say they’re on high alert.

Thousands of police officers and soldiers are expected to flood streets and busy highways on Monday.

Authorities say the threats of more unrest are being fuelled by inflammatory messages of violence on social media.

Other messages of people promising to fight this are also doing the rounds online.

July’s week of unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal left more than 300 people dead and a number of businesses destroyed.
