Police officer accused of Nathaniel Julies’ murder is expected to testify

Accused number one in the Nathaniel Julies murder case, Caylene Whiteboy, is expected to take the stand on Wednesday to explain the sequence of events that occurred on the day of the teenager’s death.

The trial against the three police officers charged with killing the Eldorado Park teenager will continue at the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge in Ekurhuleni. Caylene Whiteboy, Simon Scorpion Ndyalvane and Voster Netshiongolo are charged with murder, perjury, defeating the ends of justice and unlawful possession of ammunition.

The 16-year-old who suffered from down syndrome died after allegedly being shot by the officers in August last year.

Yesterday, a nurse from the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto testified, stating that when the officers took Julies to hospital, he was dead on arrival.

During proceedings on Monday, the court heard of how accused number 3, Voster Netshiongolwe, went to the scene and asked questions the night Julies was killed.

State witness, Meghan Brown, has told the court that Netshiongolwe approached her and asked to be shown the crime scene and he asked her a number of questions.

Brown has testified that accused Netshiongolwe had asked her for details of the crime.

Brown told the court that she knew accused three from a previous murder case he was investigating of her boyfriend that was shot dead.

Forensic expert Lieutenant Colonel Lucas Visser told the court last week, “During the post-mortem when I looked at the body, I saw somebody that contains typical wounds caused by a shotgun. There were an estimated 189 pellets that struck the deceased. The pellets are small little balls made of led. These pellets originate from a shotgun cartridge and according to my measurements, it is number 5. That is the size.
