D’BANJ MAKES HIS NOLLYWOOD ACTING DEBUT IN A MOVIE MUSICAL TITLED SYMPHONY

The Nigerian Afro star first came into the limelight in 2005 with his first album, No Long Thing, which he put out in collaboration with his industry partner/producer Don Jazzy on their Mo’Hits label. In 2010 however, D’Banj took a bold step in the music industry and began working together with American artists like Snoop Dogg, and then in 2011, he sealed a deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. That exact year, D’Banj achieved a prominent impact with his single “Oliver Twist,” which surpassed a volume of African charts and thrived pretty nicely in the U.K. and Europe as well. One can say his bold moves paved the way for most of the trending Nigerian afrobeat champions of today.

The musical, however, titled “symphony” is directed by Oraka Nvy Nnanyelu, and it is youth-themed. It tells the stirring narrative about spirit, love, dreams, accomplishment, prosecutions, societal negligence, and the resultant consequences.

Symphony expresses the situation of an ordinary talented African youngster, striving to withstand all odds in order to gain. The scenes are created in numerous luxurious settings across Lagos, and the film exhibits an assemblage of multi-award-winning stars like Nigeria’s Koko master, legendary singer and songwriter D’banj (Oladapo Oyebanjo), Ghanaian legendary actress Jackie Appiah, Kenyan superstar diva Tanasha Donna and Nollywood stars Lanre Hassan (popularly known as Iya Awero), Bolaji Amusan (Mr. Latin), Kalu Ikeagu, Efa Iwara, Scarlet Gomez, Daniel Abua, Doris Okorie, among others.

The Koko master, D’banj also earned his acting debut in “Symphony” as he has proven to not only be proficient in music but also in acting.

Oraka Nvy Nnanyelu, who is the director of the movie stated that, “Symphony is a beautifully crafted, priceless work of art that mirrors the everyday life of the African youth’s journey to relevance”.

Also designated to premiere with the film venture is a music album containing original soundtracks and performances from the project, written, taped, and performed by top music stars, some of who starred in the movie.
