Kaizer Motaung: Kaizer Chiefs chairman bags doctorate degree from UCT

The University of Cape Town has fulfilled heir promise the bestow an honorary degree on Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung.

In a series of viral social media posts, ‘Chincha Guluva’ can be seen taking to the stage to receive his degree much to the delight of the guests.

As the founder and owner of one of the biggest football clubs in South Africa and beyond, Motaung was honoured with a doctorate by the Mother City university on Friday afternoon.

Part of those who rallied behind the revered football boss and ex-footballer is none other than the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and leader Julius Malema.

“CIC @Julius_S_Malema with the Motaung Family ahead of Dr. Kaizer Motaung receiving his Honorary Doctorate Today we celebrate Dr. Kaizer Motaung and may his legacy inspire others,” wrote the EFF.

Entertainment SA previously reported that the red berets hailed the varsity for their move to recognise the humble servant of the game.

Motaung was given a Doctorate in Social Sciences for his tremendous contribution to Sports Development.

The 77-year-old established Amakhosi in 1970 and turned the Soweto giants into formidable sides in the African continent.

His influence emanates from the fact that he played for Atlanta Chiefs in the United States of America between 1960 and 1970 for Atlanta Chiefs before coming back home and forming the club.

Meanwhile, Motaung follows the likes of his counterparts such as Irvin Khoza and Jomo Sono as some of the football bosses who have received honorary doctorates.
