South Africans mourn the passing of late SABC staffer Bulelani Koyo

The South African music industry is mourning the passing of former Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter Bulelani Koyo.

Dubbed the ‘BK The Maestro’, Koyo succumbed to cancer and many celebrities are sharing their messages of condolences to the Eastern Cape-born radio deejay.

His father, Andile Khunju, has confirmed the death and said the family was devastated and also revealed that the 39-year-old was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer.

“In March, Bulelani was diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer, he could not even do the operation he wanted to do because the doctors said it was too late. Even though the doctors had decided we did not give up, we kept trying to save his life,” said Khunju as per Sunday World.

Also joining scores of people and friends in sending their messages to the family is none other than Chuma Tokota.

Tokota said he met Bulelani in 2007 through music and the late Lizalise Idinga Lakho singer was known for his love for choral music.

“Koyo had insane love for choral music and that is how I met him because I was in that space too. I found out about his sickness when he shared with the listeners of Umhlobo Wenene,” he said.

“I immediately reached out, he explained how sick he was, then his colleagues and friends in the media and music industry came together for the concert, which was a success. I believe that he was with us throughout the fundraising, he saw our efforts and he gave us a chance to go all out for him.”

The ex-SABC staffer revealed his illness in the afternoon drive show hosts Zintle Mbusi and Luks Gidane, last month, and the Ikwayala Eziphambili presenter is surely set to be missed by his fans.

Meanwhile, his funeral will be held on Thursday as he leaves behind his father, mother, daughter, and siblings.
