Diego Costa is back to the Premier League. signs with Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of Diego Costa on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old former Chelsea striker has signed a one-year contract for wolves after leaving Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in January, where he played 19 times and scored five goals in the 2021 season before his contract was terminated after just five months.

Despite being linked with fellow Brazilian side Corinthians, he has remained without a club. Last August, it was reported he was close to signing a deal with La Liga mid-table side Rayo Vallecano.

The striker joins wolves outside the transfer window after an injury to summer signing sasa kalajdzic, Costa has penned a one-year contract at Molineux after being granted a work permit by the Football Association.

Costa passed all of the relevant medical examinations this morning to become Wolves’ sixth signing since the end of last season. If clearance arrives in time, Costa could make his debut against Liverpool on Saturday.

Costa has told Wolves’ official website of the targets he is setting: “Score goals. Score goals, do the best I can, give it my all. Find my place as a person, and a player and understand how I actually feel because this is a big challenge.

“It’s not an easy challenge because you’re not going to play in an easy league and you can’t play it the way you want to. This is a very demanding championship, physically demanding, and it is something to test myself with and I’m ready to give it a go.”
