Actor and rapper Kaalan Walker has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for his conviction for raping aspiring models he met online, authorities said.
Starting in 2013, Walker used Instagram and Twitter to contact women including aspiring models on social media, promising them opportunities for professional work and to meet celebrities
Walker, 27, was sentenced Monday in Superior Court in Los Angeles following his April conviction on three counts of forcible rape, one count of assault to commit oral copulation, two counts of statutory rape, and two counts of rape by intoxication.
Walker was also instructed by Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
“You’re going to see a dark side of him,” deputy district attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi said in court, “When they said ‘Stop,’ he didn’t care.”
Walker portrayed the role of Juju, a rival gang member, who is in opposition to star Trevor Jackson’s Youngblood Priest character. The film is a modern take on the 1972 film of the same name. he also appeared in the 2017 film Kings, starring Halle Berry and Daniel Craig.
At the time of his conviction, Walker’s attorney told USA TODAY in a statement that Walker “maintains his innocence” and “did not receive a fair trial as many important issues were excluded by the Court.” He called the sentence “draconian” and said it would be appealed.
During the trial, Flier portrayed the accusers as liars seeking “revenge” against his client.
“They’re going to lie to you because they know that they fell for his BS,” he added. “It’s payback to Mr. Walker.”
He was arrested in 2018 and charged with a series of assaults dating back to 2016 involving four women and three teenage girls.
