Meet the new Idols SA season 18 winner

The 29-year-old Pretorian Thapelo Molomo is the season 18 winner of “Idols SA.”

The SAPS psychologist received the most votes this week as 22 million viewers submitted their ballots, winning the hearts of Mzansi.

The runner-up was 27-year-old Durban resident Nozi Sibiya.

When the show’s host Proverb called Thapelo’s name, he knelt to pray.

Suspense and tension pervaded the evening of the grand finale.

As the Idols judges also joined the stage to perform, the Heartfelt Arena in Tshwane was a dazzling display of color and entertainment.

The crowd went wild when the award-winning rapper AKA performed during the Top 10 contestants from this season’s special opening performance.

Costa Titch, Oskido, and D’Banji were also on the Idols finale stage, while Berry Trytsman, the season 17 winner of “Idols SA” in 2021, gave a sentimental performance.

Speaking to IOL Entertainment Trystman shared, “This has been a rollercoaster year, trying to balance family life and performance life, but it has been a dream come true to do what I love for a living and to keep proving to my kids that you need to work hard for your dreams.

“I’m looking forward to making more music and collaborating with many artists.

“Congratulations to the winner, I know the amount of work that goes into this show and it’s such a huge accomplishment, not just for the winner but runner-up as well. Go out there and work hard.”

The audience showed up in full support of their favorite performers with banners and placards as this season marked the beginning of things returning to normal after the pandemic.

In addition, the champ receives a Toyota Starlet, a fashion voucher from Truworths, and outfits for the live show worth a combined R100 000.

A recording contract with Kalawa Jazmee Records and musical instruments from Yamaha worth R85 000 will also be given to Molomo.
