Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-Min Son to go under the knife

South Korea international and Tottenham Hotspur striker Heung-Min Son could add to the players that will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Heung-Min Son has sustained an eye injury and he is set to undergo surgery as per a media statement by the English Premier League club, Tottenham Hotspur.

The skillful and speedy star, Heung-Min suffered a horrific injury as they faced Olympique Marseille in their UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday.

It is now reported that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye after sustaining the injury in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Marseille.

The South Korea forward, Heung-Min, suffered the injury in the first half of the comeback victory in France, which ensured Spurs qualified for the Champions League knockout phase as group winners.

A statement issued by the club on Wednesday evening read: “We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye.

“The South Korea international suffered the injury during the first half of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League victory at Olympique Marseille.

“Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course.”

Should Heung-Min miss the global showpiece, he will join the likes of France internationals in the form of Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante owing to injuries.

In addition, the Lily Whites’ attacking options are currently depleted, with Dejan Kulusevski (hamstring) and Richarlison (calf) unavailable for selection.

Up next is a clash against Liverpool in the English Premier League, a match that will be staged at home on Sunday afternoon – the fans have also reacted to the news.

“People saying he won’t be missed just don’t know football. Even tho he did not score many goals this season, he creates so many chances for Tottenham. all the off-the-ball moves to free up his teammates and all the small details like this that people don’t see.”
