Miley Cyrus has sparked rumours that she used her latest hit to mock ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.
The 30-year-old sings on her “Flowers” track: “I can love me better than you can, I can love me better, I can love me better babe, I can love me better, I can love me better ah.”
Fans have speculated that it is a not-so-subtle dig at Hemsworth, 32, with whom she was engaged in May 2012 before splitting a year later, followed by their marriage in December 2018 and divorce in January 2020.
On New Year’s Eve, Cyrus posted a preview for the song, announcing that it will be released on January 13 — Hemsworth’s 33rd birthday.
On Instagram, Cyrus was seen pulling down a gold skirt to reveal a black bikini or underwear in a grassy back yard.
“New year, new Miley!” she captioned the video.
Many fans were persuaded that the track’s release date was a jab at Hemsworth and that it was “revenge” for their “messy” relationship.
He is now seeing actress Gabriella Brooks, 26, while Cyrus has been linked to “The Hills: New Beginnings” star Kaitlynn Carter, 34, swimmer Cody Simpson, 25, and 24-year-old drummer Maxx Morando.
Stella Maxwell, 32, Patrick Schwarzenegger, 29, actors Avan Jogia, 30, and Adam Sevani, 30, as well as singer Justin Gaston, 34, and 30-year-old Nick Jonas, have all previously dated her.
Cyrus last year revealed at a concert her divorce from Hemsworth was a “f****** disaster”, and earlier said the relationship was blighted by “too much conflict”.
