The guy who shot and killed Nipsey Hussle has been sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for the rapper’s murder in March 2019.
Eric Holder Jr. received 25 years to life in prison for murder, an extra 25 years to life for a sentencing enhancement due to the use of a pistol, and another 10 years for shooting two other men the same day, both of whom lived.
Holder was convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Nipsey Hussle
According to the Los Angeles Times’ James Queally, Herman Douglas (Nipsey’s companion better known as “Cowboy”) began singing “hit the road Jack” as Holder was carried away, prompting the judge and deputies to condemn him and order him out of the courtroom.
After a month-long trial, jurors convicted Holder of two charges of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm for bullets that struck two other males at the site in July.
After roughly six hours of discussion, the jury returned with the first-degree murder judgement.
Holder Emotionless At Wednesday’s Sentencing, Was Not Eligible For Death Penalty
After hearing a letter from Holder’s father read out in court and hearing from one of Nip’s friends, Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke handed down the sentence on Wednesday.
Holder, who was dressed in orange prison garb, appeared stoic throughout the proceedings and did not react when the punishment was read.
He was not eligible for the death sentence, but it was already a given conclusion that his punishment would ensure he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
The sentence was postponed in part so that Holder’s defence counsel, Aaron Jansen, could file petitions to lower Holder’s conviction to manslaughter or second-degree murder.
Judge Jacke eventually denied the motions in December.
Holder’s lawyers are “deeply disappointed” with the verdict, which they intend to appeal.
Jansen later stated he was “deeply disappointed” with the ruling, which they intended to appeal.
He did secure a tiny triumph for his client by obtaining attempted voluntary manslaughter convictions in cases where prosecutors wanted attempted murder judgements.
Hussle, whose official name is Ermias Asghedom, and Holder had grown up together in South LA as members of the Rollin’ 60s. Both aspired to be rappers, but only Hussle would go on to become a local hero and a national star.
However, Hussle’s partner and the mother of his two young children, actor Lauren London, did not attend the trial, nor did any of his relatives.
