ESA profiles top 10 Amapiano songs by Nigerian musicians

The dominance of the Amapiano movement has crossed Mzansi’s borders and reached various parts of the African continent.

Nigeria especially has embraced Amapiano with all its heart, learned all about the sub-genre, and infused elements of Afrobeats into it to satisfy its listeners. It has become the leading genre that has delivered multiple hits ever since.

These are the top 10 Amapiano songs by Nigerian musicians.

ADEKUNLE GOLD AND DAVIDO_HIGH

Adekunle Gold had one of his best years on the airwaves in 2021. Following his “It Is What It Is”, “Sinner”, and more, he announced the stunner “High” featuring Davido. The song quickly hit the top of the charts and became one of the year’s biggest hits.

SPINALL X ASAKE_PALAZZO

One of the defining tracks of his 2022 unprecedented run of hits, ‘Palazzo’ spread like a virus infecting everyone in sight. From Asake’s pop-rap delivery to the stunning lyrics that had listeners gleefully learning them, ‘Palazzo’ is one of the biggest Amapiano songs by a Nigerian artist.

WIZKID_ BAD TO ME

Big Wiz as he is fondly called after making history with his hit Grammy-nominated album “Made In Lagos.” Wizkid returned with the first single off his new project, “More Love, Less Ego,” titled “Bad To Me.” The Piano jam did not disappoint. It quickly took over the airwaves and was embraced by music lovers.

ASAKE _ SUNGBA

“I just blow but omor, I know my sef.” Indeed, Asake is in a league of his own. The Nigerian Amapiano star blessed the airwaves with a lot of good music last year. Since he dropped “sungba” it has taken over the street and remains a banger.

REXXIE X MOHBAD _ ‘KO POR KE’

This is an incredible dance record from a super producer who is skilled in delivering hit songs. Rexxie’s ‘KPK’ quickly became a slang that engulfed the street and pop culture while also serving as a party-starting record whose success was evident in its enduring run on the charts.

DAVIDO X FOCALISTIC _ CHAMPION SOUND

While this incredible record didn’t enjoy as much success as it probably deserves, its quality and sophistication are indubitable. The scanty lyrics, electrifying delivery, infectious melody, and impeccable drums make it one of Nigeria’s finest Amapiano songs.

SARS X LOJAY _ MONALISA

This is an example of a perfect song whose enduring commercial success matches its street popularity. A combination of the ace producer Sarz and singing sensation Lojay. ‘Monalisa’ is a fantastic record combining simple and easily digestible elements perfectly.

BURNA BOY X VICTONY _ DIFFERENT SIZE

Off his latest album, Burna Boy and Victony serve an irresistible melody that extols a woman’s derriere. The vain polish of the amapiano-tinged number reaches a crescendo as both singers take turns flaunting their vocal dexterity.

ZINOLESKY_ ROCKING

Now reputed as Nigeria’s poster boy for amapiano, Zinoleesky keeps pace with “Rocking”. His penchant for reflective storytelling, clever wordplay, and lush delivery is in full gear as he waxes on lust and hedonism. The log drum in “Rocking” provokes a whimsical vibe with pulsing whistles as the cherry on top.

MAYORKUN _OF LAGOS

Credited as one of the earliest Amapiano records by a Nigerian artist, Mayorkun’s sticky lines, easy delivery, and infectious melody made the song a listeners’ favorite. It’s also credited for bringing the Amapiano record to the mainstream.
