On an interview with Garreth Cliff, the former Idols SA judge bares all.
Three months later, Kaya FM 959 made news after station manager Sibongile Mtyali was fired. Unathi finally speaks out after being sacked from the radio station, reportedly at the hands of Sizwe Dhlomo.
As the word came that the station manager of Kaya 959 had been fired, Sizwe Dhlomo trended on social media. It was discovered that he had a squabble with sports broadcaster Mpho Maboi and that they were at odds.
“Six minutes after ten, they have sent out the press out ‘you fire the bitch’ first person I called is my mom. She’s like you are going to sue them, I said no I am not. She says you are going to sue them, I said no I am not. You gonna use this constitution that we have which is one of the best in the world and you gonna sue, do you hear me? So I go ‘ewe mama’. said Unathi
Unathi has also spoken about the most intense and terrible year of treatment of her life, stating that she lost everything as a result of a one-sided account. Unathi addressed the main reason of their troubles in her words. “The only matter I will address because it is very important to me is the theme of GBV that keeps on coming up.”
“This all started when Sizwe made reference to GBV in South Africa in one of his many posts about me, but GBV had nothing to do with the matter. I never alleged at any time that Sizwe committed any act of gender-based violence against me, Sizwe knows this, Kaya knows this,” said Unathi
“For the record, Sizwe and I both submitted in writing allegations against each other. Some founded and some were found not to be, from both of us. I have handed the matter against Kaya to handle legally” added Unathi
Unathi explained to Garreth Cliff that her father was the primary reason she never sued Kaya FM. Her father promised her that they would turn on each in due time, and Unathi should just sit back and watch.
“David calls me, he says mom and dad have spoken to me. They have told me you don’t want to sue, they are telling me that you are going to sue, so we are suing [laughs]. My dad was like you are not going to touch them for at least a year. So I am like why? He is like, they are going to turn on each other. I a like daddy there is no way they are going to turn on each other. He said to me ‘mntanami, our people have told me that I must tell you, you are going to wait a year and let them turn on each on each other. So when they fired Sibongile, my dad said ‘now you can go [laughs]” said Unathi
