Egypt and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah is delighted as he just became the club’s leading goalscorer, overtaking the retired Robbie Fowler.
Salah netted a brace over the weekend as they demolished Manchester United at Anfield Stadium and he said breaking the record is so special for him.
The Pharaoh’s international has revealed his excitement after becoming the Reds’ record English Premier League goalscorer in a historic 7-0 win over United on Sunday.
Manager Jurgen Klopp’s men recorded their biggest-ever victory over their rivals at home with Salah getting on the scoresheet with a double.
The double took Salah’s Premier League tally with Liverpool to 129 goals, overtaking Fowler to become the club’s highest-ever goalscorer in the competition.
“It’s very special to win the game like that with that result, but at the same time I don’t want us to go to the next game with overconfidence,” he reacted.
“We just need to stay humble and play and win the game, because we are not in the position we wanted to be. But hopefully, that gives us a good push and makes us keep winning.”
When asked about his new record, he responded that it’s a special moment for him and that he always thought of breaking it.
“It’s very special, I can’t lie. This record was in my mind since I came here. I think after my first season I was always chasing that record,” he added.
“To beat it against United with that result is unbelievable. Hopefully. I think now we are fifth in the table and three points behind Spurs; we have still one game in hand as well.
“We just need to enjoy the game and think when we play to enjoy the game, just to play our football. That’s what we showed in the last couple of weeks.
“It was the last one. I don’t think it’s a really great goal but I think it was really special.”
