Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah expressed his heartfelt disappointment after his team failed to secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Salah emphasized that qualifying for the Champions League should be Liverpool’s minimum expectation, and he apologized for not being able to provide a more positive or optimistic message to the fans at such a disappointing time.
Liverpool’s season began promisingly with a Community Shield victory over Manchester City, but they struggled in the early stages of the Premier League season, winning only two of their first eight matches. Their away form was particularly poor, with defeats to relegation-threatened teams such as Nottingham Forest, Wolves, and Bournemouth. They also suffered a rare home defeat to struggling Leeds United.
Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League in the round of 16 by Real Madrid, in addition to their Premier League struggles. They were knocked out in the fourth round of both the FA Cup and the League Cup, losing to Brighton and Manchester City, respectively.
