RIP: Music fans shattered as they pay tributes to iconic Tina Turner

 Musicians and music lovers are paying tributes to the late rock and roll singer Tina Turner who passed away on Wednesday.


Born in the United States of America, Turner succumbed to a kidney-related illness and was confirmed dead at her home in Switzerland.


Various celebrity musicians such as Sir Elton John have shared their memories of the late singer who made her name with hits such as What’s Love Got To Do.


According to the BBC, award-winning musician, Beyoncé referred to Turner as an “epitome of passion and power”, and she was joined by Sir Mick Jagger and other stars in saluting Turner’s musical legacy.

Her official Facebook and Twitter page announced the news on Wednesday evening, leaving scores of fans shattered.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” reads the Facebook post.

“With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.

“Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly. (© Peter Lindbergh).”


The We Don’t Need Another Hero hitmaker was also showered with praise by the likes of Mariah Carey and Oprah Winfrey for overcoming years of domestic abuse.

According to her bio, Turner was born in Tennessee and raised in the church, Turner basically elbowed her way into rock and roll and rose to fame in the 1960s.

When Ike Turner refused to give her an audition, she waited for the intermission in his show, grabbed a drummer’s microphone, and let rip.

Sir Mick Jagger described the star as “enormously talented”, singling out the fact that “she helped me so much when I was young”.

Another British music star, Sir Elton John, called Turner a “total legend on record and on stage”.
