BREAKING: Siyabonga Ngezana leaves Kaizer Chiefs for Romania

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the departure of defender Siyabonga Ngezana who is on his way to a Romanian club, Fotbal Club FCSB.

Formerly known as Steaua Bucharesti, Chiefs announced the news of the central defender’s move on Thursday morning.

The Soweto giants are still topping the trends when it comes to social media following their disastrous 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign.

According to their standards, Chiefs failed to lift a trophy under embattled coach Arthur Zwane and they could only manage a fifth finish on the log table.

The lacklustre displays by the Glamour Boys saw some of the fans venting their anger as they hurled insults and objects at coach Zwane towards the end of the season.

“Ngezana Says Goodbye to Amakhosi! Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to defender, Siyabonga Ngezana, who has signed for Romanian Lige 1 powerhouse, Fotbal Club FCSB, formerly known as Steaua Bucharesti. We wish him all the best,” said Chiefs in a tweet.

The 25-year-old defender says goodbye to Chiefs after spending almost seven years at Naturena since gaining promotion to the senior side from the Chiefs development structures in July 2016.

Despite showing signs of growth as a footballer, Ngezana had a mixed season in the previous campaign.

He was found guilty of committing schoolboy errors and he ultimately lost his place in the starting eleven but Zwane gave him another chance to redeem himself in the second half of the season.

Looking at his overall statistics, ‘Tower’ made 123 appearances for Amakhosi since 2016, and he netted six goals and provided a single assist.

Remaining with the club, information circulating around suggests that Zwane could be axed and succeeded by ex-Young Africans coach Nasreddine Nabi who left his job on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the club recently announced the departure of veteran defender Erick Mathoho who left after more than a decade at the club.
