Banyana Banyana ended up drawing 2-2 with Argentina in their second FIFA Women’s World Cup match on Friday.
The team coached by Desire Ellis initially opened up the scoring through Linda Motlhalo in the 30th minute before Thembi Kgatlana doubled the lead in the second half.
Unfortunately after Thembi’s goal, Banyana Banyana took the foot off the pedal and Argentina managed to pull one back through Braun in the 74th minute.
At that point the team were all over the place and looked disorganised, especially in midfield and in attack.
Argentina ran with the chance and drew level through substitute Nunez in the 79th minute.
The game ended but it’s important to point out that Refiloe Jane had to be stretchered off with an ankle injury in the first half.
Furthermore, Banyana Banyana’s weakest link on the pitch was again goalkeeper Kaylin Swart who looked vulnerable whenever Argentina played long balls into her penalty area.
Banyana Banyana also created a number of good goalscoring chances throughout the game but failed to convert them.
