The Mzansi Youth Choir has secured a spot on America’s Got Talent finale after they made history by receiving the first-ever group golden buzzer.
The announcement was made in in the week 3 semi-finals that the group will be one-half of the top two, alongside Indonesian singer Putri Ariana. One of the choir’s members told host Terry Crews they were “so excited and humbled” after the announcement.
It was back in May when the choir joined the AGT stage and received the first-ever group golden buzzer after performing Nightbirde’s ‘It’s Ok’. Judge Simon Cowell described it as “the perfect audition”.
The choir revealed that the song choice was about paying a tribute to the late singer for her composition, Nightbirde, who passed away not long after she also received a golden buzzer on the 16th season of the show due to weakened health after cancer treatment. She died in February 2022.
Per USA Today, the choir stands to walk away with a $1 million prize and a Las Vegas residency.
