The queen of pop, Beyoncé recently turned 42 years old, and as the superstar that she is, she celebrated in style, and while at it, she received a surprise serenade from Diana Ross on Monday.
The 75 year old Ross came though surprisingly appeared at the singer’s Renaissance World Tour in Los Angeles on Monday to sing “Happy Birthday.” The Motown legend had fans cheering as she led them in singing “Happy Birthday” to the shocked “Cuff It” singer as she stepped out in a sparkling black and feather gown. She said she had to repay the favour after Beyoncé once sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
In a video that has bee going viral, Beyoncé looked both delighted and emotional at being serenaded by the music icon and jumped up and down with excitement before embracing Ross as the song ended.
Looking at Ross and holding hands with her on stage, Beyoncé said: “Thank you so much, you are so amazing. This is the legendary Diana Ross! There would be no me without you and thank you so much for all of your sacrifice and your beauty and your grace. Thank you for opening doors for me. Thank you so much.”
Ross replied with a big smile on her face: “You sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me so I wanted to sing it to you.”
The beautiful moment between the musicians was captured by a lot of famous faces in attendance at the show, including Kim Kardashian who shared a video on her Instagram Story. “A birthday song from @dianaross,” she wrote alongside the clip.
Beyoncé serenaded Ross back in 2019 when the Motown singer was turning 75. Previously, Mrs Carter opened up about how Ross is one of her musical inspirations. She also played a fictional girl group singer turned solo star based on Diana in the movie adaptation of the hit musical Dreamgirls.
