Thando Thabethe wins SAFTA’s Best Actress in a TV Comedy award

The celebrated actress and radio presenter Thando Thabethe made waves at the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA’s) when she scooped the coveted award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her lead role on the Netflix 3 part movie, ‘How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower.’

The media personality admitted that she never anticipated the SAFTA win. She said: “I don’t think anyone can expect it, right? The people I was up against are very good — Tali’s Baby Diary is a popular show. So I think I was in great company. It would be presumptuous for me to think ‘It’s yours,’ but I was delighted when it was.”

According to TimesLive, Thando Thabethe’s win was even more remarkable since she was nominated for two completely different genres. She also got a nomination for Best Actress in a TV drama for her role in season 3 of ‘Housekeepers.’

Reflecting on her achievement, Thando said: “I think that’s awesome. An actor dreams of having range, and to be nominated in two completely different genres speaks to that. I was in love with the character I played in Housekeepers, also in season 3. So, a lot of work went into that, and that nod meant a lot.”

Thando Thabethe currently hosts a radio show on 947.
