The festive season is officially in session and we have some advice to keep afloat during these good times with some holiday do’s and don’ts.
The do’s
Enjoy yourself
Make sure you use this time to spend with loved ones. Whether it’s going out for a coffee or a lunch date, make sure you use this time to surround yourself with people who fill your cup. It’s moments like these that only come once in a blue moon so make sure you enjoy yourself.
Keep your gym routine
The body you worked so hard to achieve all year should not suffer all of a sudden because it’s the festive season. Stick to your routine. Don’t be tempted by the holidays. Also, why would you work that hard just to give up in December? My advice is to keep going, I bet the gym has lees people in it which means more room for you.
Spend wisely
You may be tempted to go on a shopping spree during this time but you have to remember that January is around the corner. I hate to be the party pooper but reality is going to settle in soon, and we have to raise this now so that we don’t become people who are broke when the new year emerges. Put some money aside for rainy January. You’ll thank yourself when everyone is posting about January woes.
Thank yourself
Whether this means buying yourself a small gift or relaxing at home, thank yourself this festive. Your body deserves to rest. Take care of yourself. Than your body for all it has been through with you this year. Do something as small as buying yourself an ice cream or a bubble bath just to show yourself some gratitude. You deserve it.
Stay hydrated
Drink water as much as possible. During this time, you will eat a lot of food, drink a lot of drinks, so make sure you stay hydrated, especially because of the heat. We experienced a heat wave some weeks ago and when you have to take out the sunscreen for a day out, you know you have to have a bottle of water right there with you. Your body needs water. Watermelon is a great substitute if water is not your thing.
The don’ts
Do not over commit
This season comes with a whole lot of get togethers which means you’ll be spoiled for choice when deciding which party or event to attend and which one to decline. As exciting as this may sound, it will eventually become exhausting. Rather plan which events you are most interested in attending and then let the event planner know if you won’t be attending there event because it’s not cool thinking people are coming to your party only to have empty chairs and tables. If you won’t be able to make it, say it.
Do not plan a last minute party
There is no time for last minute gatherings hey. When you plan a last minute party, you have to expect last minute problems like people not being able to make it because they have other plans. And the things is you cannot get mad ta anyone because you woke up and chose chaos. It shall be your chaos to manage all on your own. If a few people show up, be grateful because most people are spending this time with family or loved ones. You cannot throw a last minute party and expect everyone to attend.
Do not use your phone while driving
This is the oldest rule in the book. You may notice how bus the streets are during this time so you need to exercise extra caution while driving. Connect your car to the Bluetooth and be safe, rather than holding your phone by hand. Can you imagine all the trouble you’ll be saving yourself if you are extra careful? All the other lives you will have saved because you were a responsible citizen? Less phone time while driving equals safer streets.
Do not over indulge
Because you have time now, you may indulge in your favourite beverage of choice a little too much, but this may become a problem once you have to go back to your regular programming in the new year. Careful not to start habits that will be difficult to stop once the new year begins. Many things can turn into addictions. From eating too much food to drinking too much. Eat and drink but also notice the thin line between enjoying something and over indulging in it.
This time is yours to enjoy, to make memories and to rest. We hope you will use this time to truly reflect on the year that has been and make bigger and better decisions as we move into the new year.
