The one thing that is not so typical in Hollywood? Big stars suing upcoming stars or influencers. But I guess that’s because its rare that we hear of influencers trying to extort big stars.
This is one interesting case where the American comedian and actor, Kevin Hart is suing YouTuber LaTasha Kebe. The 44 year old has taken it upon himself to open a case of extortion against the influencer popularly known as Tasha K, as she allegedly threatened to release a bombshell interview with his former assistant unless he paid her a six-figure “ransom”.
According to Page Six, the lawsuit revealed that Kebe sat down with Hart’s former assistant Miesha Shakes last month to record a chat in which the latter made “false and defamatory statements regarding Hart”. Hart says after the interview an alleged associate of Kebe contacted his team and threatened to “publish the interview unless Hart paid a ransom of $250,000” (about R4.6-million).
It is said that they allegedly warned Hart the stories told during the sit-down, which were linked his marriage and business dealings, would be “damaging” to his reputation. Reports also say Kebe went on to post a “teaser” for the interview in which she and Shakes allegedly “touted the supposedly salacious and damaging nature” of the interview as a “threat to Hart” for not paying the “ransom” allegedly demanded.
The lawsuit claims: “The teaser video prominently features Kebe stating at the 2:06 mark, ‘When you don’t pay, we have to get money by any means necessary.'”
Following this, Hart’s representatives reportedly reached out to law enforcement and issued Kebe a cease and desist letter. They highlighted that Shakes had previously committed to a Non-Disclosure Agreement and a Confidentiality Agreement during her tenure with Hart from 2017 to 2020.
However, on December 22nd, it’s alleged that Kebe informed Hart about her intentions to release the complete interview. Subsequently, the interview was published later that day on her members-only website.
In response, Hart has taken legal action against both individuals, accusing them of extortion and invasion of privacy. Additionally, Shakes faces charges of breaching her contract and defamation.
