2. The development and future of Smart Office

The smart, efficient, and fully interconnected experience underpuns the future of Smart Office. Characterised by various working styles ranging from causal co-working spaces to remote working, flexible working is now better and better understood by the public. In embracing this new normal, today’s informed consumers have more specific requirements for productivity, catalysing change in the market. Against the backdrop of the rising popularity of flexible working, multi-device features and collaboration enablers will become a staple of technology in the future. However, this development introduces a dilemma – as the volume of data we store and use in our laptops, mobile phones and tablets continues to grow, traditional means of data transfer between multiple devices will only become more and more complex and time consuming.

• In the past, users generally had to use data cables or third-party software to

transfer files between devices, which was quite the hassle.

• Users who work with multiple screens often find themselves distracted as they

shift their focus from one screen to another, hampering their productivity.

• Nowadays, workers are generating more and more data, which are stored across

multiple devices. However, the lack of support for cross-device connectivity has

relegated the devices to becoming information silos. For users, there were no

effective ways to browse, share and transfer data between devices.

• The idea of mobile productivity is that employees can work effectively anytime or

anywhere. However, with data stored in separate locations, users are unable to

access files stored in their office PC from home.

Players in the industry are taking steps towards enhancing connectivity, seamless collaboration, and data sharing between smart devices in order to shape a digital ecosystem for an all-scenario workspace. This means competition within the smart device space has shifted from individualised products and hardware to prioritise operating systems (OS) and ecosystems. Creating a better smart experience through hardware and software integration has become a new cornerstone of the PC industry that drives innovation for the future.

For this reason, different manufacturers have come up with their own solutions. Take

the Apple MacBook for example, their closed ecosystem has innovative features such as AirDrop to enable a smartphone-PC cross device connection.

Taking a different approach, Huawei is committed to creating a Seamless AI Life experience centred around the 1+8+N strategy. It enables Multi-Screen Collaboration, but it also enhances the cloud experience and delivers a smart productivity experience. With innovative collaboration between two major platforms, Huawei is determined to fulfil users’ needs for an efficient workplace by means of wireless cross-device connectivity, streamlined human and device interactions and assisting the seamless flow of data.

3. Huawei Smart Office Solution

3.1 Huawei Smart Office vision

Huawei envisions the smart office as a platform that empowers people to more freely express their creativity and communicate with others. Simple productivity tasks can now be easily managed by everyday computing devices, however, logical thinking and effective communication are skills that cannot be replaced. Therefore, the goal that Huawei seeks to achieve with its smart office products is to better empower users in creation and communication. Today, people use multiple devices at work, which usually run on different systems, offering different connection options and supporting different file formats. The fragmented user experience makes it highly challenging for Huawei to realise its vision for the smart

office.

Huawei believes that device collaboration and ecosystem integration are the core capabilities of a smart office. By enabling the linking of devices and their operations to achieve synergy, it provides a unified experience that allows for an integrated ecosystem of systems and applications. People will therefore be freed from complex processes and inefficiencies, maximising creativity and communication.

3.2 Huawei Smart Office philosophy

Huawei’s Smart Office philosophy is to create an organic synergy between hardware and software to deliver a smart experience where devices can collaborate with each other, through compatible ecosystems and content that flows seamlessly across platforms. This greatly facilitates creativity and communication to promote smoother operations at work.

Cross-device collaboration is one of the core capabilities enabled by the Smart Office. Smart Office hardware usually refers to a computing machine, an input device, and an output device. By using a wealth of smart features, Huawei enables the devices to be connected for efficient collaboration and capability sharing.

When Huawei Share was introduced, it allowed users to share files across smartphones without using a cable. Since then, the OneHop feature has streamlined the interaction and has continued to support fast data transmission between a smartphone and a laptop.

Meanwhile, the Multi-Screen Collaboration was the first feature in the industry that displays all interfaces of a smartphone and a laptop in a single screen. This truly breaks down the barriers between devices and establishes cross-device collaboration.

4. Building the Smart Office experience with device collaboration and ecosystem

integration

Device collaboration and ecosystem integration are two core capabilities of Huawei’s smart office that create a new smart office experience. Through its technological superiority in near field communication and cloud technology, combined with Huawei’s rich experience in creating equipment in these categories, Huawei has successively created a series of features such as Huawei Share, OneHop, Multi-Screen Collaboration and Instant Connection, and via device integration, has introduced the concept and functions of the “Super Device”, which enables seamless collaboration between mobile phones and HarmonyOS devices such as tablets, audio products, and smart screens. Through various devices linking and ecosystem integration, Huawei has built a more powerful smart office experience.

A device system unique to Huawei, the Super Device is a major innovation. Via the powerful distributed computing technology, it supports the connection and collaboration between devices such as PCs, tablets, watches, monitors, speakers, and headphones and more. It allows multiple devices to be combined into a Super Device to achieve collaborative management and resource sharing between multiple devices, meeting consumers’ office needs in multiple scenarios.

6. Lightweight Aesthetic Design for a vast vision

6.1 Perfect screen ratio to bring a FullView Display HUAWEI MateBook D 16 inherits MateBook family’s FullView Display design, with two 4.6mm ultra-narrow bezels at the left and right sides, resulting in a high screen-to-body ratio of 90%. These thinner bezels and the higher screen-to-body ratio enable the laptop to house a bigger display in the compact body, delivering a wider viewing perspective while offering more immersive experience.

To build the slim bezels, Huawei Design and R&D teams made full use of Huawei’s aesthetic philosophy and innovations in structuring, in which the screen circuits are housed in the hinge, remarkably reduceing the bottom bezel width. Meanwhile, adhesive bonding is used on the screen panel to further reduce the frame width.

In addition, the HUAWEI MateBook D 16 sports a 16-inch screen with a perfect aspect ratio of 16:10. Compared with the traditional 15.6-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, a 16:10 aspect ratio gives a 10% taller11 display area, bringing a wider view. On one hand, it allows users to view web pages, documents, and charts more effectively, improving users’ browsing and work efficiency; on the other hand, it brings an excellent visual experience. This helps users to balance between work and entertainment, enjoying the best of both worlds.

HUAWEI MateBook D 16 features a 1080P+ 12 FHD IPS screen with a maximu brightness of 300nits13 and anti-glare protection, bringing clearer image display for dynamic content when compared to other more commonly used panels. Moreover, its 1920×1200 screen resolution increases the number of pixels by 11.1% compared to the 1920×1080 of the traditional 1080P screen, displaying more content. As it supports 100% sRGB colour gamut, the display is capable of displaying richer details and more vivid colours for greater visual enjoyment, bringing a more immersive viewing experience to users. The combination of vibrant HD display, the 16:10 aspect ratio, and anti-glare matte design makes all onscreen visual details true-to-life, be it viewing a web page, a high-resolution image or a Blu-ray video.

6.2 Eye protection for an all-round comfortable viewing experience

A good screen should not only be clear, but also offers a comfortable viewing experience. Prolonged screen time will inevitably cause users to suffer from harmful blue light radiation, flickering screen, and other problems, which will have a negative impact on their eyesight as well. Putting consumers at the heart of its business, Huawei has made great efforts to improve eye protection technology, bringing users peace of mind with a eye-protecting FullView Display that can be used anytime, anywhere, even for long time usage.

The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 sports a display that has achieved TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light (Hardware Solution) certification14. Compared with traditional software-level low blue light solution, in addition to the eye protection effect without manual operation, the hardware solution can accurately reproduce the colours of the images without producing a yellow cast. In addition, the display also adopts DC dimming to help users alleviate eye fatigue, thus protecting their eyesight.

6.3 Slim and sleek design for ultimate portability

The HUAWEI MateBook D 16’s energetic and portable body design echoes the flexibility of young office workers. The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 has also reduced in size, and now has a total weight of 1.68Kg15 with a thickness of up to 17mm16. The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 comes with a sleeker design – such as the thinner bezels – allowing Huawei to further lighten the laptop and improve its portability. In addition, the new generation of HUAWEI MateBook D 16 also supports a large opening and closing angle of 180°, which can be unfolded in full screen and lain flat on the table, allowing sharing to be unrestricted. The laptop includes one full-featured USB-C, one USB 3.2 Gen1 port, one USB 2.0 port, one HDMI 1.4 port and one 3.5mm audio jack. The versatile port selections can meet the diversified needs of multiple scenarios such as data transmission, mouse connection, device charging, and external connection of 4K monitors, helping users to unleash their creativity any time. In particular, the USB-C port can also be used together with the original charging cable to support reverse charging of smartphones when the laptop is switched off.

6.5 Delicate design that captures your heart

As a portable productivity tool, Huawei has put a lot of effort into the HUAWEI MateBook D 16’s design and the manufacturing technique needed to produce it. It inherits Huawei’s minimalist design style with a minimalist metallic yet streamlined body. Additionally, the classic Space Grey and Mystic Silver colour ways bring infinite imagination and beauty.

6.6 Beyond aesthetics, MateBook is strong and durable

Every HUAWEI MateBook is manufactured with precision and quality as a top priority. Huawei has carefully selected partners, world-class manufacturers, and established strict laptop testing standards so that its laptops are not only aesthetically designed, but also durable and long-lasting. The laptop’s type-C port durability has been tested over 10,000 times, the keyboard’s endurance test reaches over 5 million times and the laptop hinge has been tested over 25,000 times. Each of these tests is closely aligned to daily user habits and are made stringent for each key component to ensure reliability and long-lasting usage for users.

When it comes to key feature tests, Huawei also aims to exceed industry standards. For example, the main purpose of the high temperature and high humidity test is to analyse laptop lifespan. Huawei tests the laptop in an extreme 40°C and 90 percent RH environment to ensure that the laptop still works after 960 hours, which is significantly longer than the general industry test. It can therefore be concluded that the HUAWEI MateBook Series stands out from the competition in terms of durability and stability.

7. Break limits with high performance

Some young generation users view PCs not just as office tools, but also a way to have fun. Performance is one of HUAWEI MateBook D 16’s core competitiveness. Huawei is committed in enabling efficient collaboration of innovative technology and PC configurations. By doing so, it lets HUAWEI MateBook D 16 maximise its performance advantages and meet the demands of users.

7.1 Intel standard-voltage processor breaks performance bottleneck for lightweight laptops. In the Internet era, it is increasingly common to use laptops to handle work scenarios, and therefore consumers’ requirements for laptop performance are becoming higher. In the past, thin and lightweight laptops were generally equipped with low-voltage processors, which inevitably limited their performance in multi-tasking and heavy workload scenarios. The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 is a breakthrough with Intel® CoreTM Standard-Voltage Processors. The highest edition is powered by -i9-13900H17 Processor that includes 14 cores and 20 threads. Compared with the previous generation, the CPU multi-thread performance is improved by 142.3% while single-core performance has improved by 23.6% 18 , it lets users easily handles heavy multitasking such as data analysis, technical drawing, and code compilation

In terms of graphics, the 13th Intel® CoreTM Standard-Voltage Processors are integrated with Iris® Xe Graphics , which are professionally calibrated by Intel to deliver performance comparable to that of an entry-level discrete display for everyday audio and video entertainment. The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 is equipped with LPDDR4x RAM that uses a dual channel design, greatly boosting performance for heavy loaded apps as Photoshop.

Meanwhile, all variants in the HUAWEI MateBook D Series come with a PCIe NVMe SSD high-speed solid-state drive. This gives a remarkable boost in loading apps and games, ultimately delivering a smoother user experience.

7.2 Two modes to unleash the full potential

In order to meet the needs of different users in specific user scenarios, the HUAWEI MateBook D 16 comes with two mode options. The Standard Mode is designed for users to handle daily office tasks, while the Performance Mode19 is suitable for performing heavy-duty work and professional software. By pressing the Fn and P keys at the same time, the user can easily select the optimal mode for the current tasks.

7.3 Deliver high performance in serenity

In laptops, performance and thermals go hand in hand. HUAWEI MateBook D 16 is equipped with two HUAWEI Dual Shark Fin Fans in high-density form. With the 0.2mm-thin blades, the fans produce maximised airflow to enable HUAWEI MateBook D 16’s thermal design power to sustain up to a level of 40 W TDP, as well sustaining boosted performance.

In addition to increasing the air flow, Huawei engineers are also making constant efforts in optimising the fan sound quality through sound frequency tests and fan blade fine-tuning, so as to find perfect fan blade shape that enables more air flow and less noises.

To bring truly silent fan performance, the fan blades were fine-tuned by every single degree until the prominence ratio is reduced to 5dBA or lower. The effectively reducing the noise caused by fan rotation. Even at high speed, you would only hear wind rather than noise. For everyday office scenario, the noise the fan generates is only 22dBA 20, equivalent to the sound of whispering, which allows the user to enjoy the silent moments and focus on work.

Moreover, HUAWEI MateBook D 16 uses the composite capillary heat pipes which enhance thermal conductivity efficiency by 20%21 compared to traditional heat pipes.

For average heat pipes, the coolant backflows through its internal capillary structure, where the denser the capillary structure is, the higher the cooling efficiency will be. However, the density of average heat pipes is approaching its limit. Yet, the composite capillary heat pipe uses mixed particles of different sizes, allowing the smaller capillary structure to accommodate the cap in between the larger structure, and thus increasing the capillary density of the heat pipe to further improve thermal conductivity efficiency.

In addition, HUAWEI MateBook D 16 has a strategically designed mainboard, keeping the heat source as close to the fan as possible. This shortens the length of the heat pipe for faster internal circulation and higher heat dissipation efficiency.

7.4 Innovative keyboard

Keyboards are highly effective at what they do and are among one of the most frequently used features on a laptop. A keyboard can be tailored to its target audience to provide some comforts to users with busy days. A well-designed keyboard should not only have rich functions and provide comfort but should also be durable in structure. HUAWEI MateBook D 16’s keyboard uses the Soft-landing22 design which offers 1.5mm key travel and comes with numeric keypad that enables physical shortcut keys, making it more comfortable to the touch and richer in function.

7.4.1 Soft-landing design

Typing continuously for a long time can lead to numbness and fatigue – something that office workers, copywriters and programmers all know too well. One of the main culprits behind the discomfort are the mini shocks that users experience when they bottom out their keys. Over time, the effects of small impacts compound and may lead to other adverse effects.

Upon identifying this user pain point, Huawei’s engineers sprang into action. In a ground-breaking brainstorm session, the project team took a look into space probes, or more specifically, how they could rapidly decelerate from high speeds before landing safely. This movement resembles that of typing. Inspired by the space probes, Huawei’s engineers designed a ‘brake first then stop’ soft-landing design for the HUAWEI MateBook D 16.

In this solution, slowing down key pushing is the first step. For that, the engineers added a layer of soft ink on the backplate, which acts as a cushion for the switches as they are being pushed, slowing them down just as how space probes decelerate before they land. As a core shock-absorbing component, the ink was manufactured with a carefully chosen material. The ink cannot be too hard, or it would damage other components, yet it can’t be too soft either, or it would not be able to serve its purpose. Huawei’s engineers went through a hundred iterations with different types of inks, each having a different hardness and shock absorbing quality, before deciding on the best solution for the final product.

After tackling the first step, Huawei’s engineers moved on to the second – stopping the press. Leveraging the malleability of the backplate, they managed to come up with a soft-landing solution that dampens the reactive force of bottoming out keys. The typing experience is not only about design. After the laptop is assembled in the factory, Huawei conducts a type test until it hits a passing rate of 100% to perfect user experience.

7.4.2 1.5mm key travel

Key travel refers to the maximum distance a pressed key can travel before it bottoms out and is an important metric that determines the quality of a keyboard in keyboard assessments. However, the goal to design a keyboard with long key travel goes directly against another important goal – creating a slim form factor. Faced with this dilemma, many manufacturers opt for a slimmer laptop design at the expense of the typing experience.

The length of key travel is a very important aspect of user experience. The laptops of traditional manufacturers mainly use keyboards with 1.3mm or even 1.0mm key travel, which has remained unchanged for years. With a shorter space, the key travel will have a less responsive tactile feedback, delivering a poor user experience. HUAWEI MateBook D 16 offers the 1.5mm high key travel keyboard, providing users the tactility needed for a comfortable and easy typing experience.

7.4.3 Numeric keypad with physical shortcut keys

A well-designed keyboard can bring a higher efficiency. HUAWEI MateBook D 16 comes with an individual numeric keypad. Compared with a keyboard with composite numeric keys that sit on the top, an individual numeric keypad allows users to move less in between the numeric keys for a higher efficiency. On top of the numeric keypad, HUAWEI MateBook D 16 offers four physical shortcut keys that are frequently used by users, including the access of Calculator, AI Search, a Soft Switch to Return to Desktop or Camera23. Among them, the AI Search key can call out Huawei’s Smart Search function in just one click, allowing users to easily search for computer files, as well as directly search for smartphone files that are synced to the computer, which greatly improves office efficiency. The camera key can directly turn off the camera to prevent privacy leaks.

7.5. Huawei Metaline Antenna: Up to 270 meters24 of Connectivity

As a leading player in the communications industry, Huawei has formed a strong technical background in the field of antenna technology. In the past developments of Huawei’s Antenna Project, there were countless challenges and hurdles. To combat them, Huawei went the extra mile to construct a set of unique methods and patent accumulation for an optimised antenna design. Thanks to these patents and the summary and improvement of the project experience, Huawei’s scientific research team finally designed a brand-new Huawei metamaterial antenna to achieve an ultra-long-distance connection of up to 270 meters.

7.5.1 Innovative Structure for Superb Performance

Metamaterial is an artificial material with special structures. These artificial structures hold special properties, such as negative refraction. Huawei’s Metaline Antenna is made up of this very metamaterial with artificial structures, which can achieve performance indicators that ordinary antennas cannot achieve. Huawei’s Metaline Antenna uses a new structure to stimulate more resonance modes and improve antenna performance. Compared with ordinary antennas, its signal conversion efficiency is increased by 70%25. Under the same network environment, the uplink and downlink signals are each improved by 3.5dB and 3.5dB respectively.

7.5.2 Unleashes real speed with greater signal coverage

Why are laptops often able to detect Wi-Fi signals but fail to connect to these networks

smoothly? When a laptop and router are stably connected to each other, users can then access the Internet smoothly. The signal transmission strength of common wireless routers are usually also much greater than that of laptops, which means the signal coverage range is often larger than that of laptops. Therefore, when a router is outside the coverage range area of the laptop, the laptop can detect the Wi-Fi signal but cannot connect to the Internet normally. This phenomenon is known as “false signal.” To resolve this, Huawei developed its HUAWEI Metaline antenna technology, which can achieve long-distance connections up to 270 meters, providing a smoother experience between network discovery and connectivity, greatly reducing “false signals”.

7.5.3 Guaranteed Stability for Any Scenario

1)Weak signal download: In daily use, it’s common for one or two walls to come between the router and the laptop. In this scenario, the signal often becomes unstable and the network slows down. To put the Metaline Antenna to the test, the MateBook D 16’s download speed increased by about 51% when compared to its previous generation, while being separated by two walls from the router.

2)Long-distance connection: In an open environment, MateBook D 16 can achieve a long-distance connection of up to 270 meters, which is equivalent to the length of two and a half World Cup standard football fields.

3)Game delay: Two computers were simultaneously tested while running online games in a weak signal scenario. The result proved that the MateBook D 16 reduced delays by 63%.

7.5.4 Three-layered Interference Protection: Faster and More Stable

Wi-Fi signals may be interfered by various factors during the transmission process, and most of the interference signals come from inside the notebook. Huawei’s Metaline Antennas use a variety of anti-jamming techniques to ensure that its laptops not only have faster network speeds, but also ensure long-term stable operation.

1) Circuit filter design: Devices within the laptop’s hardware often generate a lot of electromagnetic noise during operation. To avoid these noises from interfering with Wi-Fi signals, Huawei engineers use unique interference scanning technology to find key interference sources and carefully designed a filter circuit to eliminate these interference noises from the source.

2)Optimal wiring design: In addition to some devices, there will be interference radiation in the circuit. To eliminate these radiations, Huawei engineers conducted multiple circuit simulations and designed most of the interfering lines in the interlayer of the circuit board, and directly shielded the interference radiation of the lines through the circuit board.

3)Electromagnetic barrier design: more than that, to protect the antenna from interference in the last step, MateBook D 16 designed a metal barrier between the antenna and the main board to block other signals from interfering with the antenna. After a triple-layered design, the interference signal of electromagnetic noise found inside the MateBook D 16 is eliminated step by step during the transmission process, ensuring that users can continue to enjoy the high-speed Wi-Fi network stably without jams.

7.5.5 The world’s first laptop to Attain the 5-Star Wi-Fi Signal Capability

Certification

The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 is equipped with strong antenna performance, bringing all-round wireless performance and adding network experience improvements. Huawei MateBook D 16 is also the world’s first notebook to pass the 5-Star Wi-Fi Signal Capability Certification. It has passed many professional tests such as TRP (Total Radiated Power), TIS (Total Isotropic Sensitivity), ultimate reach throughput test, user scenario network experience, antenna passive efficiency, etc. MateBook D 16 passed the test with excellent results, bringing professional guarantee to users’ smooth online

experience.

8. Smart video conference

Hybrid office working has gradually become a norm. Currently, more and more home office and online conference communications are taking place, affecting communication efficiency. During business trips, meetings may take place at train stations, airports or coffee shops where the background is often noisy, interfering the transmission of meeting messages. Not only will the meeting be inefficient, but it could also set users up for failure if it leaves co-workers and clients with a bad impression. The same goes for working from home, where noises of children playing, or seeing a messy background can affect your professionalism. To address these pain points in common meeting communications, Huawei Smart Office launched a smart video conference solution. With Huawei’s AI capabilities, users can enjoy three major features, including AI Camera, AI Sound Effects, and Smart Voice to create an immersive, safe, and efficient conference experience that adapts to complex environments.

8.1 Smart Camera: High Definition & Intelligent

HUAWEI MateBook D 16 is equipped with a 720P Camera, bringing a clear video call experience. At the same time, Huawei’s self-developed AI Camera smart feature enables videos to be processed with AI algorithms at the system-level, bringing the video effect26 of AI background, FollowCam and Sight Correction. All third-party video applications are also supported. In the norm of the home office and online learning, it helps users to meet scenario-based needs for video conferences and online education.

AI background: In video scenarios, complex background environments such as crowded cafes, airport lounges, or a cluttered environment at home will distract users from meetings and study, affecting communication effectiveness. The HUAWEI MateBook D 16’s AI background has built-in enriched static and dynamic backgrounds such as conference office, coffee shop, scenery, etc. Users can also choose their favourite image from the laptop to customise the virtual background picture. With Huawei’s very own portrait segmentation algorithm, compared with the mainstream video software, details presented become more accurate and complete visually.

FollowCam: When the caller needs to move around during a video call, such as scenarios where a lecturer moves around a whiteboard or a speaker demonstrating a technical solution, the caller often moves out of the video screen inadvertently, which greatly affects the communication experience. By turning on the FollowCam function, the screen is adjusted in real time according to the position of the subject, who will always be kept in the centre of the video.

Sight Correction: One of the biggest differences between video calls and face-to-face communication is that there is less direct eye contact, which greatly reduces the sincerity of human connections at work. However, since the laptop’s camera is positioned above the screen, when making video calls, the human eye will naturally look towards the front of the screen, making it difficult to look directly at the camera position. To provide a more natural and appealing video call experience for all parties, the Sight Correction function will intelligently adjust, and process user’s eyesight through AI algorithms, making the experience more natural as though it were a face-to-face communication where eye contact is maintained.

8.2 Crystal-Clear Audio Pickup that Listens Over Distances

The HUAWEI MateBook D 16 uses a dual-microphone design and a self-developed AI noise reduction algorithm to reduce the echo of the other party during a call and effectively reduce non-human voice environmental noise. Whether it’s the sound of keyboard typing, a mouse clicking, a whirring air conditioner in the office, or noisy ambient sounds in or out the office, HUAWEI MateBook D 16 can reduce noise interferences and make your voice be heard as clear as day.

8.3 Personal Voice Enhancement lets users focus only on the person who’s speaking HUAWEI MateBook D 16 supports Huawei’s proprietary Personal Voice Enhancement technology27, which not only effectively keeps ambient noise at bay, but also analyses the acoustic footprint of input audio to eliminate unwanted human vocals. (Feature requires 3.5mm headset to function).

Every person has their unique acoustic fingerprint. The Personal Voice Enhancement feature analyses this fingerprint and leverages the learnings of the AI models to isolate and boost the vocals of the person speaking into the mic, all while minimising the vocals from those that are not. This feature helps make sure the users are heard loud and clear in meetings, even if they are in crowded areas such as the office, café or on their commute.

What’s also notable is that many factors can affect a person’s voice. People can sound different at different times of day. Sickness, speaking for long periods of time, or even the way a person wears a headset can also affect how their voice sounds. In view of all that, Huawei’s engineers have tested the solution with many different types of headsets and wearing methods to ensure that it can adapt well in different usage scenarios. The acoustic fingerprint is also sampled dynamically to ensure that the user’s voice is identified accurately and is recognised as intended.

9. Smart experience enables a better life

9.1 Super Device delivers one cohesive multi-device experience

Consumers these days integrate more and more smart devices into their lives, and singular devices can no longer support all the needs a user may have throughout the day. For instance, they need a laptop to handle work and a smartphone for entertainment. Therefore, the question of how to let two devices create a seamless cross-device experience is particularly important to users.

HUAWEI MateBook supports Super Device28 to provide a more straightforward way for users to connect the laptop with other devices. To initiate pairing, users simply need to click on the Control Panel icon at the lower right corner to open Super Device, then drag other device icons towards the PC icon. Super Device is based on Huawei’s revolutionary distributed technology, which tears down the boundaries between Windows PCs and mobile devices for seamless collaboration. Capabilities belonging to either devices can be modularised and accessed by the other. In this setup, users can freely customise their experience with these modules and use multiple devices at once like they were using a single device, without having to go through the often troublesome pairing process time and again.

In the Super Device interface, the PC icon is located at the centre, surrounded by icons representing other devices (such as smartphones, tablets, monitors and smart TVs). To connect two devices together, users simply have to drag the icons corresponding to the devices they want to connect towards the PC. This method of pairing is far more straightforward compared to the traditional text-based UIs offer, not to mention just how much more intuitive dragging to connect is.

9.1.1 Collaborating with a phone

Once the PC-smartphone Super Device is created, the smartphone is transformed into an external drive connected to the PC. This connection is established wirelessly – no cables are needed. Once connected, the smartphone will get allocated its own drive letter29 and icon in the ‘This PC’ window. Users can access files saved within the same PC file system UI they’ve become used to and take advantage of Multi-device Document. Actions include attaching a smartphone document to an email that’s being drafted on the PC, or saving an image directly to the smartphone from another device. Furthermore, after setting connected devices up as trusted devices, the PC will automatically connect to them as soon as they are brought within range. Users who have no need for Multi-Screen Collaboration can also exit the window without affecting the connection.

In a truly seamless manner, when a PC is paired with a smartphone, the PC’s external peripherals such as the keyboard, mouse, microphone and even the display can all be used as though they were connected to the smartphone. This collaboration also allows the PC’s ecosystem of great productivity apps to shine across various mediums and provide users with smart office experiences through enabling cross-platform functionality.

• When the connection is established, the smartphone interface will be displayed on the laptop screen, meaning that the user can use two systems within one screen. The user can not only control the smartphone on the laptop side, but also get access to the rich app ecosystem through a laptop.

• Files can be shared between two devices via a simple drag-and-drop or a tap. This lets the user easily view, edit and share files, images and text on both sides. What’s more, content can be directly copied and pasted between two devices, which is straightforward and easy-to-use.

• Peripherals such as a mouse and keyboard can be used to control the smartphone, so the user can work on both devices directly on one device.

• Answer audio and video calls on laptop: Users can use the laptop to answer audio and video calls received on the smartphone. The laptop’s camera, microphone and speakers can be used as the external equipment for the smartphone, so the users can release their hands from holding the phone and be more efficient when multitasking.

• Edit mobile files with laptop software: Users can directly open and edit smartphone files on their laptop. In this way, the big laptop screen, keyboard and other equipment together make file editing more efficient. After editing, the file can be directly saved on the phone.

• Unlock the phone from PC: Users can unlock and control their smartphone from the HUAWEI MateBook. Gesture password, numeric password and customised password are supported.

Users no longer need to switch between two devices repeatedly, and can just focus on one screen to use both devices flexibly. The professional ability of the PC can not only handle the professional tasks of a PC, but also the content of a mobile phone. The task processing is more focused and efficient, and the advantages of the device can be fully optimised. Multi-Screen Collaboration also allows the laptop and smartphone to establish a connection with a tap. Once connected, users can handle smartphone tasks seamlessly on the laptop, as well as transferring data between one another and handling collaborative tasks efficiently.

9.1.2 Collaboration with a tablet30

A tablet can be connected to a PC to form a Super Device and deliver an all new multi-device experience like never before. The tablet can be transformed into a drawing pad or a secondary screen for the PC to enable better multitasking productivity. Features, documents, images, videos and other files can also be shared between the PC and the tablet, requiring a simple drag and drop. With the tablet’s rich selection of apps and features, and the PC’s performance and larger screen, users are empowered to live fuller lives and work with better efficiency. Furthermore, like smartphones, connected tablets can also perform as an external drive31 for the PC. This connection also occurs wirelessly, allowing users to transfer files between two devices with ease.

In Extend Mode, the PC can also detect the physical location of the tablet32 . For example, when the tablet is place on the right side of the PC, the PC will automatically extend its screen towards the right side. Compared to traditional methods of connecting multiple devices, Super Device offers more intuitive controls and better convenience.

Mirror Mode: The PC screen is projected to the tablet with both devices showing the same content

• For creative work, the tablet turns into a drawing pad. The user can also use a stylus to draw lines or fill in colours with ease. • When presenting content with another user, the tablet and PC can display the same content. Remarks made on one display will be updated on the other device as well.

• When accompanying a child, users can doodle and sketch on the tablet, and view the drawings on the large PC screen.

Extend Mode: The PC display is extended to the tablet where both devices are

showing different content

• The tablet serves as an external monitor for the PC where the user can scroll and browse content.

• During online classes or meetings, users can use either the PC or tablet to launch the class/meeting, and take notes or do research on the other, significantly improving efficiency.

• When working from home, the tablet can be used as an external display for the PC if there’s no additional monitor around. It makes it easier for users to browse content and read news.

Collaborate Mode: Content can be shared across the PC and tablet with drag-and-drop. The tablet can use the PC’s keyboard and mouse

• Supported file type: Images, videos, audios, documents (Word, Excel and PowerPoint etc.), compressed files, app installer files and text files.

• With a simple drag-and-drop, files can be easily shared across the PC and tablet.

The flagship HUAWEI MateView monitor supports 4K+ resolution and P3 cinema-level colour gamut, enabling users to examine every minute detail on any creative work. Moreover, the displays of HUAWEI MateBook and HUAWEI MateView support Huawei’s Cast+ protocol34. Compared to traditional wireless casting methods, Cast+ enables safer, smoother and lower latency casting.

Wireless projection with Cast+ protocol Safe connection with fast re-connecting: For security reasons, users will be prompted to input their six-digit PIN when attempting to establish a connection with a new device. Once connected, the HUAWEI MateBook will see the HUAWEI MateView as a trusted device and enable Wireless Projection. Imperceptibly low latency: Even when Wireless Projection is enabled, the output on both displays will remain smooth. In Mirror Mode, the latency is lower than 45ms35, allowing both the picture and sound to remain in sync between the two devices for resonant visuals and sound effects.

FullView high-res display: The laptop supports high-resolution wireless projection in Mirror and Extend Mode. Picture quality remains high across two modes with sharp text and rich details.

Mouse and Keyboard reverse control: Keyboards and mice connected to the display can be used to control laptops, tablets and other devices36. This makes putting together an effective workstation easy, so users can focus on productivity.
