Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has made a significant return to WWE in a pivotal new role. The legendary wrestler turned Hollywood superstar, renowned for his contributions to the wrestling world before transitioning to acting, has officially joined the board of directors for TKO. This entity was established by parent company Endeavor as part of the UFC and WWE merger finalized in September 2023. Additionally, as part of the deal, Johnson has assumed “full ownership” of The Rock moniker.
In a statement, The Rock expressed his enthusiasm for this unprecedented move, saying, “Being on the TKO Board of Directors, and taking full ownership of my name, ‘The Rock’, is not only unprecedented but incredibly inspiring as my crazy life is coming full circle.” He further emphasized his role as a builder, ready to contribute to the expansion of TKO, WWE, and UFC businesses on a global scale. Johnson conveyed his motivation to work alongside Ari Emanuel, the CEO of Endeavor, to continue leading in sports and entertainment while supporting athletes and performers striving to realize their dreams.
In a related development, Netflix has secured an exclusive deal with WWE Raw. The popular weekly live show will be available exclusively on Netflix starting from January of the upcoming year. This marks a historic shift, as it is the first time Raw will not broadcast new episodes on a traditional television network in its 31-year history. The deal extends beyond the United States, allowing viewers worldwide to access weekly WWE shows, live events, and notable pay-per-view specials like WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble on the streaming platform.
