‘The Heart’ by Malia Obama set to premier at Sundance Film Festival

Malia Obama, the former First Daughter, is about to make a mark at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival with her debut short film, “The Heart.”

The 25-year-old filmmaker, who wrote and directed the film, has released a compelling trailer generating significant anticipation for its premiere in the US fiction short films category, as reported by BET.

In the teaser, Obama offered insights into the film’s premise, describing it as an “odd little story” and “somewhat of a fable about a man grieving the death of his mother after she leaves him an unusual request in her will.” The trailer, featuring an all-Black ensemble cast, presents stills suggesting a narrative focused on lost objects, lonely individuals, forgiveness, and regret. Obama emphasizes the exploration of tenderness and closeness within these themes.
