Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is adamant that the club isn’t getting the recognition it deserves, despite its impressive performance this season.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper has allowed only five goals in 18 DStv Premiership matches so far, highlighting his team’s defensive prowess. With their recent 1-1 draw against SuperSport United, the Brazilians have extended their unbeaten streak to an astounding 42 games.
Williams feels that Sundowns’ achievements often go unnoticed, linking this oversight to their consistent success. “People think that we buy the best players and automatically we should be the best, but that’s not the case,” he said in an interview with Phakaaathi.
He emphasized the rigorous efforts put in by the team both on and off the field, including thorough analysis and constant adjustments for each game. Despite facing challenges and maintaining high standards, Williams believes Sundowns don’t receive the credit they deserve.
“We strive so hard to be close to perfection, but people won’t give us credit,” he said. However, Williams acknowledged the appreciation from the technical team and loyal supporters, recognizing their shared dedication to excellence.
In reflecting on Sundowns’ success, Williams emphasized the team’s commitment to preparation and continuous improvement. “We don’t take things for granted,” he asserted, emphasizing the importance of thorough analysis and strategic planning in their pursuit of victory.
