South African School Team Breaks 4x100m World Record

The Curro Hazeldean boys’ U17 4x100m relay team broke the 2015 world record of 39.95 in style, with an exceptional race run by their sprint star team of Matodzi Ndou, Inam Dlumge, Adam Motloung & Zattu Hlongwane.

The team left the field in far behind, at the NWU Top 30 in Potchefstroom on Saturday as they flew around the 400m track to end with a superb time of 39.92 sec, 0,3 sec better than the previous U17 world youth record that was held by a team from the USA.

The Curro team is coached by well-known Thabo Matebedi, who also coaches junior athletics sensation Bayanda Walaza, who earned a relay silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris this year and won double gold in the 100m and 200m events at the recent World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru.

South Africa now hold two youth world athletics records, the U18 4×100 and also holds the record in the U20 men’s 4x100m relay events after the sprint team of Benjamin Richardson, Sinesipho Dambile, Mihlali Xhotyeni and Letlhogonolo Moleyane ran a 38.52 sec run, and took gold at the World Athletics U20 Championships that were held in Nairobi in 2021.
