Tyra Banks, the iconic supermodel and entrepreneur, is teasing the fashion world with thoughts of a return to her modelling roots.
The 51 year old Tyra retired from the runway in 2005, but recent ventures have reignited her passion for the camera. From her striking campaign for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS to her triumphant comeback for Victoria’s Secret, she’s embracing the idea of stepping back into the spotlight, and it’s not just for her own empowerment.
In an interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph, Tyra shared how revisiting her modelling career could be a rejuvenating experience. “Kim was a one-off. Victoria’s Secret, that was a one-off. But now I’m like, it might even feel like a vacation day because, as an entrepreneur, it just doesn’t stop and I don’t sleep,” she revealed.
For Tyra, revisiting the runway isn’t just nostalgia; it’s a statement. “Going back to the roots, I think it can almost feel like it’s just an exhale. Sometimes we’re so hungry for reinvention that we push away what we’re best known for. But there’s something empowering about me being thicker, curvier, and over 50, going back to modelling. It’s an exhale for me, but it’s bigger than me now. It’s for women everywhere.”
Tyra revealed that she’s even contemplating signing with agencies on an international scale. “I think I want to even get modelling agencies, not just in New York and LA, but Paris and maybe even Sydney, because I’m here so much,” she said, hinting at a potential new base in the Land Down Under.
While she has been keeping a low profile in Australia, Tyra credits her anonymity there to her versatility in blending in. “There’s another face you don’t see right now,” she joked. “I wear wigs. You probably wouldn’t even know it was me. Here, I feel a lot safer. It’s less intrusive than America.”
However, Tyra is ready to step out and embrace the social scene once more. “We are coming out. I want to go to stuff now. It’s been entrepreneur time, with my head down, no social stuff. Now, I’m ready. I need some outfits though. I need some Aussie brands that can fit my booty—you know, some curves. I’m ready to get out.”
