Liverpool Denied Win By Feisty Everton Performance

The Derbyshire Derby last night was not short of drama with Everton keeping log-leaders Liverpool to an agonising draw with some full-time drama creating a full-scale battle on the field earning both teams two red cards each.

History of Heated Rivalry

The rivalry between the two teams goes back decades and with last night being the final match to be played at Everton’s 131-year-old stadium historic home ground at Edison Park, creating further pre-match tension.

Match all Wrapped-up, Or Not

The game saw an easy opening goal after 11 minutes when a deflection off a Liverpool player gave Beto a clean run at goal behind the defenders and slotted it with ease. Five minutes later Alexis Mac Allister produced a top class header off a Salah cross to even the match.

The game seemed all wrapped up for Liverpool after Salah scored Liverpool’s second goal in the 73rd minute, but that was not the end by far.

Drama After Finish

The closing minutes of the game were a filled with drama as James Tarkowski slotted a superb goal in the top righthand corner of the Liverpool goal in the eighth minute of extra time, clinching a hard fought draw.

It was the celebrations of the goal and of historic draw against their close rivals that saw temperatures raised. It started with Abdoulaye Doucoure,  who got emotions raised when he  sprinted over to the Liverpool fans section to celebrate Everton’s win.

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones took exception to this behaviour and grabbed Doucoure from behind. The situation got out of hand when the players grappled and had to be restrained by team-mates. Both players were shown second yellow cards by referee Michael Oliver in a dramatic finish to the derby.

Coach Catches Red Card

This was regrettably not the end of altercations as Liverpool’s Arne Slot, who was furious that Everton’s equalizer was allowed to stand as he felt there was a foul on Ibrahima Konate in the build-up, was shown a straight red for something he said to the referee at full-time.

Slot was then Unable to do his Post-match interview after receiving his red-card and will also not be able to be field-side in their next match away at Wolves.

The Stewards had to be called in to calm the players down, and local police were also on hand to separate the players.

The draw also opens up the premier title race with only seven points separating Liverpool and Arsenal with 13 games remaining in the season
