South African Stars Shine Bright at the 3rd Trace Awards & Summit

South African musicians continue to dominate the global stage, proving once again that their talent is truly unstoppable. This year’s 3rd annual Trace Awards & Summit, held at the stunning Mora Resort in Zanzibar from February 24-26, saw four local artists making waves alongside international superstars.

Launched in 2023, the Trace Awards & Festival is a live spectacle dedicated to honouring the “creativity, coolness, and confidence” of African and Afro-inspired music and culture. This global music platform highlights the achievements of artists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries across Africa and the diaspora, giving them the recognition they deserve.

Tyla, the global R&B sensation who has taken the world by storm with her distinct sound and unmatched artistry, was crowned Best Female Artist of the Year. The “Water” hitmaker continues to prove that she’s not just a rising star—she’s a global phenomenon.

Another powerhouse, Makhadzi, secured the Best Dancer award, solidifying her status as the queen of the dancefloor. Overwhelmed with gratitude, she took to Instagram to thank her fans, writing:

“Congratulations khadzinators 🎉🥂🍾, GOD DID! YOU MADE IT FOR ME. BLESSINGS ON TOP OF BLESSINGS!” Makhadzi also hinted at an exciting new collaboration with Tanzanian Afrobeats sensation Konde Boy, promising even more fire for her fans.

Adding to the South African triumph, Tyler ICU was named Best Artist Southern Africa, while the chart-topping duo Tito & Huppe took home Song of the Year for their dancefloor anthem Tswhala Bam, a track that has been making waves worldwide.

Beyond South Africa’s wins, Nigerian superstar Rema stole the show, winning Album of the Year for Heis and *Male Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz received the prestigious Best Global African Artist award, cementing his legacy as one of the continent’s finest.

Adding a touch of nostalgia, Nigerian music legend D’Banj was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his enduring impact on African music.

Olivier Laouchez, chairman and co-founder of Trace, reflected on the significance of the event: “The Trace Awards & Summit was born from an unshakable belief: that Africa’s music, its artists, and its culture deserve to be celebrated on the highest level, with the world watching.
