The South African Open, played this past weekend at the Durban Country Club, was unfortunately not able to be completed today due to severe rainfall that made the course unplayable for much of the day.
The decision was taken to initially suspend the fourth round, and then the officials decided to cancelled play due to a completely flooded course, reducing the contest to 54 holes only.
At that stage only one person, had completed the fourth round with the leaderboard having Englishman Laurie Canter and South African Dylan Naidoo locked in joint first place at the top of the leaderboard on 14 under par each after the third round. The decision was made to decide the winner on a single hole play-off on the 18th.
The pair returned to the 18th at 15.00 local time, with Naidoo winning on the first extra hole – thanks to a magnificent chip to just under four feet from the hole – his successful putt, giving the local 27-year old, his first visit to the DP World Tour winner’s circle.
Dylan’s impressive second round, eleven under par score, that included 10-birdies and an eagle, set him up for his first tour win and bodes well for his future on the tour.
The co-sanctioned DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour tournament was the penultimate event in the International swing on the 2025 Race to Dubai. Laurie Canter currently leads the Race to Dubai in this years contest.
